Middle Tennessee State University’s Small Business Development Center, in conjunction with the Small Business Administration, will conduct a free seminar on “Starting your own Business” on May 21, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce located at 3050 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro. The purpose of this seminar is to provide individuals interested in starting a business a broad overview of the many things they will be confronted with in doing so. It will introduce attendees to the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, the services available, and how it can assist in the development of their business venture. Sources for information gathering, research and databases available are also discussed. This seminar is intended for persons who have never been in business. The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club is proud to host the fifth annual Healing Field - Flags of Remembrance, located on Medical Center Parkway next to Belk at The Avenue.

The field will feature over one 800 3-by-5 foot American flags displayed in a military style layout. Each flag can be sponsored for $30 in memory or in honor of a hero. Click here to sponsor a flag.

Sponsors are encouraged to bring mementos or tags of loved ones to hang on the 8 foot flag poles displaying the flags that are made in the United States. Those interested in sponsoring a flag should do so early, so organizers can be sure that the flags carry the name of the hero on opening day.

The Field will open on the morning of Saturday, May 25, and closing ceremonies on Monday, May 27, will include patriotic music, prayer, the reading of the names of Tennesseans who have lost their lives in the War on Terror, the playing of Taps and a 21-gun salute.

The Tennessee Small Business Development Center will be Presenting “Business Plan 3” on May 28, 2013 at 3:00 pm. This Workshop builds on the content presented in Introduction to Business Plans 2 – The Narrative, by giving aspiring Entrepreneurs more detailed insight on the major financial components of the business plan, their source/creation and interpretation. Each of the major financial statements will be reviewed including the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Projection, how they relate to each other, and the corresponding utilization of financial analysis, with a focus on Break-Even and Ratio Analysis. This Workshop will be highlighted by a hands on exercise requiring attendees to complete an actual 12 month cash flow projection during the Workshop. The Prerequisite for this Workshop is the completion of the TSBDC-MTSU, Introduction to Business Plans 2 – The Narrative Workshop. Attendees should bring a hand held calculator, and a pencil with an eraser for the exercise (the utilization of a PC, PDA, or similar electronic device is not allowed). Middle Tennessee State University’s Small Business Development Center, in conjunction with the Small Business Administration, will conduct a free seminar on “Starting your own Business” on October 29, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce located at 3050 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro. The purpose of this seminar is to provide individuals interested in starting a business a broad overview of the many things they will be confronted with in doing so. It will introduce attendees to the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, the services available, and how it can assist in the development of their business venture. Sources for information gathering, research and databases available are also discussed. This seminar is intended for persons who have never been in business. There is no charge to attend the seminar, or for one-to-one counseling which is available, by appointment, after attending the seminar. During the Seminar each of the major narrative sections of the business plan will be reviewed. These include the reference sections – Title Page, Table of Contents, Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure, Salary/Wage Matrix, Time Line/Project Plan, and Job Description; along with the content sections – Owner Biography/Experience, Business Description, Product/Service Description, Target Market Identification, Marketing Strategy, Management Summary, Operations Summary, Mission Statement, and Executive Summary. Business Plan financials will be covered in a separate Seminar. The Tennessee Small Business Development Center will be Presenting “Business Plan 3” on November 21, 2013 at 3:00 pm. This Workshop builds on the content presented in Introduction to Business Plans 2 – The Narrative, by giving aspiring Entrepreneurs more detailed insight on the major financial components of the business plan, their source/creation and interpretation. Each of the major financial statements will be reviewed including the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Projection, how they relate to each other, and the corresponding utilization of financial analysis, with a focus on Break-Even and Ratio Analysis. This Workshop will be highlighted by a hands on exercise requiring attendees to complete an actual 12 month cash flow projection during the Workshop. The Prerequisite for this Workshop is the completion of the TSBDC-MTSU, Introduction to Business Plans 2 – The Narrative Workshop. Attendees should bring a hand held calculator, and a pencil with an eraser for the exercise (the utilization of a PC, PDA, or similar electronic device is not allowed).
