Welcome to Rutherford County! We’re glad you’re here.
Below, please find some brief information about what sets our dynamic community apart from the rest.
It’s our mission to promote economic development and a quality of life to benefit all residents, so please
use us as a resource. We love our county, and have no doubt that you will, too!
Education matters
Rutherford County is home to Middle Tennessee State University, the largest undergraduate institution in the state. We also boast one of the finest K-12 school systems in all of Middle Tennessee, and the county’s commitment to education is reflected through the Chamber’s Business Education Partnership, sponsoring programs to benefit both public and private schools.
A destination of choice
Rutherford County is a clear destination of choice for investment, expansion and corporate headquarters locations. Household names with deep roots in the county include Nissan North America, Ingram Book Company, Bridgestone/Firestone, General Mills and State Farm.
Healthy options
We have excellent healthcare facilities in Rutherford County. Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro and StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna are regional hospitals offering a full array of services. Also, the Alvin C. York VA Campus has more than 1,400 employees serving the medical needs of veterans, and Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and Surgicenter sees over 21,000 patients per month.
The past can be a blast!
Historic sites abound in Rutherford County. The Courthouse, located on the Murfreesboro public square, dates back to pre-Civil War times, and the Stones River National Battlefield commemorates those who fought at the Civil War battle that took place here in 1862. Other sites include Oaklands Historic House Museum, Cannonsburgh Village and the Sam Davis Home and Museum.
Places to play
Recreation is an important part of life in our county, and we are proud to have multiple sports complexes, a greenway system, golf courses, soccer, and baseball fields, along with boating and fishing on scenic Percy Priest Lake.
